SHL Summer League Playoffs
The captains discussed the playoff format and have decided to make a change. The way season and playoffs work is that one team gets an extra game (the team that wins the first playoff game to get to the championship). This cannot be helped. However, it has been decided that the team comes in first during the regular season should not be punished by not getting a chance at that additional game. Therefore, we have decided to make the following changes. The 1st place team gets the option of playing in the first playoff game (this is a gamble because they may get beat and make it to the championship game). If the 1st place team decides to play, then the choice goes to the 2nd place team (also the same gamble of not getting to the championship game). If the 2nd place team decides to play in the playoff game as well, then the 3rd place team gets a bye to the championship game. With this new rule the potential scenarios are: The 1st place team takes the bye and 2nd plays 3rd in the first playoff game. OR The 1st place team decides to play and the 2nd place team takes the bye and 1st plays 3rd in the first playoff game. OR The 1st and 2nd decide to play in the first playoff game and the 3rd place team gets a bye to the championship. This season, 1st and 2nd have decided to play in the first playoff game. So, the Rangers will play the Maple Leafs this Thursday (6/24) at 8:15 PM and the Red Wings will get a bye to the championship. The championship will be Thursday (7/1) at 8:45. I am guessing whichever team loses that first playoff game will regret not taking the bye. CAPTAIN…PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR TEAMS KNOW THIS NEW SCHEDULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
